March 2012 Rompin CR

First fish of the day after getting our baitfish

Our group initial target was to aim for ebeks. We went to the first spot with 50 live prawns and it was the first time I see so many boats gathering at one place! Upon reaching the spot we saw anglers from other boat landing ebeks. If im not wrong all 5 boats of our kakis were also present. We also saw bro Gary landing a ebek! Feeling excited, all of us on-board drop down a live prawn each as we were determined that the live prawn would be more enticing then the metal jigs. We waited n waited for the ebek to bite. In the process we also heard a very loud 'piak' ! Guess whose rod broke? LOL

More than 20 minutes later, all of us on-board were still busy looking at people landing ebeks! Soon we decided it was time to change spot. We then went around different un gan to get our desired bait fish and went off to target the tengiri!

While jigging for bait fish, i hooked up a prawn and drop it down with a size 4 sinker. Within minutes, the boat man shouted that my rod was bending. After about 10 minutes of fighting, I landed my very first cobia.

Immediately after I landed the fish, our hardworking boatman(Ji Zai) drop down another live prawn on my rod. Within minutes, I got another solid hook up on another cobia ! My kaki landed the cobia for me as I gave up fighting the second fish half way thru. (Must train up my left hand!)

Next we head down to the tengiri spot and landed tengiris minutes upon reaching.

My First Ever Tenggiri!

While aiming for the tenggiris, a sailfish decided to take up the bait!

7)Micro Jigs

As you can see from most tackle shops, mico jigs are usually distributed rigged with treble hook or no hook at all . One common question people always ask is whether to rig micro jigs with treble or assist hooks.

Most experienced angler will definitely advise to rig the micro jigs with assist hooks. Reason is simply because the treble hook will tend to have a higher chance of getting “sangkot”

There is actually no fear of failing to set hook with the assist hooks as most of the time fish that are attracted to microjig will inhale the whole jig into their mouth, as such anglers will hardly miss it.
